Hi folks, I’ve been using Android OS now for approx 4 months. I had come over from iOS. There were some major differences in how to use the Android Device, navigating the menu and learning how to close apps. I learned one major thing, the back button is your “friend” this will close existing apps and get you back to the home screen.
I have to say I was a tad suprised when I learned that Android provided on the Samsung Galaxy S2 with the default launcher, would not allow me to have apps grouped in the Applications folder. So I then learned about different launchers, what they can do and what they can’t! do. I replaced the stock launcher with Go Launcher EX, one of the most user-friendly launchers and most customisable launcher. There are a few apps I found to be useful specially for new users on Android.
1. Camera ICS+
This can be used to replace the stock camera app that is provided with Android. This is a paid app but well worth it, specially if you want more control over your images, such as flash, focusing, and where the images are to be saved. You can elect to have the images saved directly to your External SD Card or use the internal Flash Memory.
A very intuitive image/video viewer. This can be used to replace the Gallery Viewer. You can also specify other folders in the settings to view images such as Screenshot folder or you can also have folders blocked from showing anything.
A free sync app to sync files & folders from multiple devices.
Free Calendar app with more functions than the stock Calendar app.
Lookout Mobile security, will scan your phone/tablet for malware and viri. The Paid version includes Safe Browsing & Privacy Advisor
6. NQ Vault
NQ Vault, allows to secure files folders, sms/mms & Facebook chats. The Facebook Chat portion will encrypt the chat so no one can eaves drop. If you want to use the Facebook Chat you will need to invite other users on your friend list so they can decrypt the message you are sending them.
7. Go Launcher EX
GO Launcher EX is the most popular Android home launcher replacement app in Google Play. It offers you many first-ever features to customize your own home screen experience. Go launcher EX provides you speedy and smooth operation, fancy and plentiful themes, and utility functions with imagination.
8. WeatherZone 3.0
Weatherzone brings Australia’s most accurate forecasts to your Android phone! Forecasts, current conditions, interactive pinch-zoom animated radar and more for over 2000 Australian locations and over 1500 International locations. Using data from the Bureau of Meteorology, our team of Meteorologists review this data to ensure you get the most accurate forecasts available in Australia.
9. X-plore File Manager
X-plore allows you to see inside of your Android phone or tablet. This is a dual-pane explorer, which means there’s two folders shown at same time, and common operation such as copying files are done from one pane to another. And X-plore shows folder hierarchy in a tree view. This offers clear orientation on where in file system you currently are, and fast switching to other location.
10. Dolphin Browser
Dolphin’s free mobile browser has a community of over 50 million plus who enjoy the exclusive features provided in this browser.Dolphin Browser is the FASTEST & EASIEST mobile web browser available. Dolphin Mobile Browser（Formerly Dolphin Browser HD is the world’s first Gesture, Sonar and Add-on enabled mobile web browser on Android.
