HandBrake is an open-source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded video transcoder, available for MacOS X, Linux and Windows. Most recent stable version is 0.9.6. Now as per the release notes which can be found here. In this new version you lose the ability to specify what size or approximate size of file you want.
Target Size is gone, and isn’t coming back Don’t bother complaining on the forums
But for those of you who are using Gnome 3.2 you have noticed Handbrake has been flakey at best an annoyance at worse at keeps crashing part way through a transcode. This version seems to be running quite well on my LinuxMint (LMDE 201109) UP4. I have just installed the LXDE window manager and find this more useful then the Gnome 3.2 UI. Now as we all know for those us using Debian or Debian Based systems such as LinuxMint you can’t use a PPA Repo to install. You have to download the source, configure & build! That’s exactly what I did today. After which I made a Deb package of the build which can be found here. I’m running a 64 Bit system so the Deb is an amd64 deb. Disclaimer if it works great! If it doesn’t then don’t blame me.
If you need to uninstall for any reason use the following command in termial
dpkg -r handbrake-rev4474–x86-64-
